Overview
Michael Atherton, a soloist of Sirocco fame, is a high-profile musician, educator, and writer. Born in Merseyside of Welsh, Irish, and Viking/German descent, he migrated at 15 to Sydney in 1965, where he lived in a migrant hostel for a couple of years. Since then, he has enjoyed several careers, including rock and roll, working as a music therapist, playing early music, folk, multicultural music teaching, and writing books. From a self-taught guitar player to an accomplished composer and multi-instrumentalist, Michael continues to explore the materials and processes of sound-making. He can play instruments from the ancient Welsh crwth to contemporary electronic sound-making devices. Put anything in his hands, and it becomes a musical instrument.`
