Overview

Aljamia brings you music from the early centuries. Aljamía is a music collective inspired by mediaeval Europe and La Convivencia. Songs and dances from the golden age of Islam and Judaism, Christian musician kings, visionary saints, and anonymous minstrels and street performers. Aljamía takes you on a journey to a forgotten and erased past of multiculturalism, wisdom, and beauty. They will take you on a mediaeval journey throughout centuries and continents. Together as a collective, they bring live music to the stage.

Aljamía is a Sydney-based musical group formed in 2020 with the goal of introducing and showcasing European medieval culture to Australia. The group features João "Jaye" Almeida on bagpipes and flutes and Yiss Mill on percussion. Aljamía's music blends various genres, including traditional Jewish and Hasidic melodies, psychedelic rock, folk, soul, klezmer, and medieval music. They perform live music and participate in events like the Bundanoon Folk Festival.
